Geothermal Radiant Floor Heating
The 21 Acres Center's geothermal system will consist of an underground tubing system; tubing embedded in the floors and two ground-source geothermal heat pumps that work symbiotically to circulate heat throughout the building. This system will use the warmth of the earth and the water next to the underground tubing to heat and cool the building depending on ambient temperatures and the need for heating or cooling. For example, in colder weather, the relatively lower temperature geothermal source heat will be augmented by the heat pumps and used to distribute heat throughout the building. It will also warm domestic water.

The 21 Acres Center will have about 5000 SF of radiant floor heating. Radiant floor heating provides comfort at lower space temperature making individuals feel warm at 65 degrees instead of 70. The plastic tubing imbedded in the floor will carry hot water to warm the floor slab. As the floor warms, it will heat the air and walls creating evenly heated rooms with no cold spots or hot spots. This system uses less than 20% of the electric energy of electric baseboard resistance heaters or a furnace doing the same task.
