Gearless Traction Elevator

The 21 Acres Center will include a gearless traction elevator using no hydraulic oil, avoiding the risks of soil and groundwater contamination and fire. (A single quart of seeping hydraulic fluid can contaminate up to 250,000 gallons of groundwater.) Built of 95% recyclable materials, the machine-room-less platform is one of the most environmentally sound elevator concepts in the industry, consuming approximately half the energy of conventional traction machines and about one third of the energy of hydraulic machines. It will save 7,100 kWh, reduce carbon emissions by 11,650 lbs, $813 annually on electricity costs, and eliminate 80 gallons of waste oil.
